Tommy Truelsen is a sound designer, audio engineer, musician, and composer. He recently designed for the Sound Scripts Series at the Rec Room Arts in Houston, Texas. Designs have also been heard at TheatreUNI (Cedar Falls, IA), the Hangar Theatre (Ithaca, NY), and Theatre Cedar Rapids (Cedar Rapids, IA). You can also hear him on his podcast "Anything About Nothing" found on most podcast streaming platforms. 

 

During his undergraduate career at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI), he pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music: Music Technology with a minor in Marketing. He has worked as a sound design fellow at the Hangar Theatre, the lead audio/video technician at St. John Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, IA, and a stagehand at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center. He has experience running monitor and house mixes for live audio as well as working with softwares such as Ableton Live, Audacity, Pro-Tools, Max MSP, Adobe Audition, Logic Pro, and QLab. Tommy is an efficient worker, highly effective communicator, and excels in team-focused environments. 


Tommy is a classically trained pianist and vocalist. He studied piano with Dr. Michael Conrad, Dr. Robin Guy, Dr. Vakhtang Kodanashvili, Dr. Dmitri Vorobiev, and Nicole Green; and he studied voice with Jeffrey Brich. Tommy has performed with several ensembles including UNI Concert Chorale, UNI Opera, Cantorei, the Panther Marching Band, the West African Drum and Dance Ensemble, Canticum Novum, and chamber music groups. His experience as a collaborative musician grew exponentially while working as the departmental accompanist for TheatreUNI. In this position, he played for workshops, auditions, juries, and other events. He also enjoys performing in the community and plays for weddings, funerals, and other events as he is able. Most recently, Tommy performed in a senior voice recital with Erika Bailey at the University of Northern Iowa.
